Patriots lose Doubs, Moses and Vera-Tucker to injuries against Jets
New England’s offense lost wide receiver Romeo Doubs and offensive linemen Morgan Moses and Alijah Vera-Tucker during Sunday’s game in Foxboro. Rookie Caleb Lomu replaced Moses at right tackle as the Patriots reshuffled their line.
FOXBORO — The New England Patriots lost three offensive contributors to injuries during their game against the New York Jets on Sunday, Oct. 18, with wide receiver Romeo Doubs and offensive linemen Morgan Moses and Alijah Vera-Tucker all leaving the contest and not returning.
Doubs injured his shoulder while making a diving, 42-yard touchdown catch midway through the first quarter. He walked off the field under his own power and went first to the sideline medical tent, then to the locker room. The score was his third touchdown of the season and opened the scoring for New England.
A.J. Brown returned to the lineup, but Doubs’ departure left the Patriots with Brown, DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism available at receiver. Mack Hollins was already on injured reserve with a calf injury.
Moses left with an ankle injury less than three minutes into the second quarter. Rookie Caleb Lomu took over at right tackle, marking the second straight week he had filled in on the offensive line after an injury.
Vera-Tucker exited in the second quarter with a hamstring injury. It was his first game against the Jets, his former team.
With both Moses and Vera-Tucker out, New England’s offensive line from right to left was Lomu, Matt Pryor, Jared Wilson, Ben Brown and Will Campbell. The injuries forced the Patriots to rely on younger and substitute players at multiple positions while the game was still underway.
