Patriots activate A.J. Brown, but his status against the Jets remains uncertain
New England added the wide receiver to its 53-man roster Saturday after he missed four games with a high ankle sprain. Brown is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against New York, with coach Mike Vrabel to decide whether he is ready to play.
The New England Patriots activated wide receiver A.J. Brown to their 53-man roster Saturday, a step toward a possible return against the New York Jets on Sunday. Brown remains listed as questionable, and his availability will be decided by coach Mike Vrabel.
Brown has missed four games since suffering a high ankle sprain in the Patriots’ Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He returned to practice this week, but said Thursday that whether he plays was “up in the air.” He added that Vrabel would weigh his condition with an eye toward “the long haul and not just the short term.”
The Patriots’ passing game has continued to produce without its top wide receiver. New England beat the Las Vegas Raiders 45-17 last week, and Brown’s return would give quarterback Drake Maye another option as the team prepares to host the Jets in Week 6.
Activation makes Brown eligible to play, but does not confirm he will take the field Sunday.
