Winthrop assault case: Judge sets $10,000 bail, but Stoughton man remains at Bridgewater
Kervens Boutin remains in Bridgewater State Hospital while he undergoes an evaluation for possible commitment. A judge set bail at $10,000 with restrictions, but he cannot be released until the evaluation is complete.
A Stoughton man charged after a woman in Winthrop reported that he tried to pull down her pants and made sexually explicit comments remains in state custody while undergoing a mental health evaluation, a judge said Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Kervens Boutin is being assessed at Bridgewater State Hospital for possible commitment, according to the judge in East Boston District Court. The court set bail at $10,000, but Boutin cannot be released until the evaluation is finished.
The bail conditions require Boutin to stay outside Winthrop, avoid the alleged victims and witnesses, and stay away from minors under 16. He also must not possess firearms or use alcohol or drugs other than prescribed medication, and must follow any care or medication conditions set by Bridgewater. The judge did not require GPS monitoring.
Prosecutors had sought $75,000 cash bail. Boutin had previously been held without bail after his arraignment and sent to Bridgewater for evaluation.
The initial complaint followed an alleged incident late last month. Police said Boutin resisted arrest. After the first report, other women described similar encounters, and investigators are examining additional potential charges.
Boutin faces charges of indecent assault and battery, breaking and entering, and resisting arrest. The allegations have not been proven in court. His next status hearing is scheduled for Nov. 20.
