Westborough Police Chief Todd Minardi was placed on administrative leave Saturday after Shrewsbury police responded to a call involving him Friday, town officials said.

In a statement posted to the town’s official Facebook page, officials said they were taking steps to retain an outside investigator. Deputy Police Chief Steve Tompkins will oversee the department’s daily operations during Minardi’s leave.

The town provided no further details about the circumstances of the call, describing it only as a “call for service” involving Minardi. Officials did not say how long the leave would last or when an investigation might begin.
