Powdery substance found aboard Delta flight after landing at Logan
Massachusetts State Police and emergency crews responded at Logan after a white granular substance was reported in a lavatory on a Delta flight from Salt Lake City. Massport said the substance was not hazardous; its identity remains unknown as testing continues.
A Delta flight arriving from Salt Lake City was met by emergency crews at Boston Logan International Airport on Thursday morning after a powdery substance was reported in an onboard lavatory, authorities said.
The flight, Delta 696, was scheduled to arrive at 6:11 a.m. at Terminal E. After it landed, the plane parked at Gate E16, where fire trucks and other emergency vehicles responded. Massachusetts State Police said troopers and bomb squad members went to the airport at Delta’s request.
Delta said the crew reported the substance toward the end of the flight and followed procedures to notify authorities. The landing was routine, and the aircraft’s 151 passengers and six crew members were not injured. Passengers left the plane normally, the airline said.
Massport said the substance was deemed nonhazardous. State Police described it as a white granular material, which was safely collected as evidence and taken for testing. Officials have not identified what it was, and the incident remains under investigation.
Delta said it will thoroughly clean the aircraft and lavatory and is cooperating with authorities.
