Gerald Green, 31, dies after Central Street house fire in Stoughton

STOUGHTON, Mass. — Gerald Green, 31, died after firefighters pulled him from a burning home at 1399 Central St. early Wednesday, according to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office.

First responders arrived around 5:45 a.m. after a single 911 hang-up call reported the fire. Stoughton Fire Chief Michael Carroll said crews saw smoke coming from the building and found Green inside. Firefighters carried him out burned and unresponsive, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries, the district attorney’s office said Thursday.

The state fire marshal’s office is assisting with the investigation. Carroll said investigators will examine whether the fire was intentionally set. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine Green’s cause and manner of death.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Gerald Green. We extend our deepest sympathies for their loss,” District Attorney Michael Morrissey said in a statement.

Authorities have not released further details. The investigation remains ongoing.
