Charles County teen faces drug charges after school bus report leads to THC vape seizure
A 16-year-old Thomas Stone High School student was charged after investigators found more than 30 THC vaping devices in the student’s bookbag. Separately, an 11-year-old at John Hanson Middle School was found with a device that tested positive for THC.
A 16-year-old student at Thomas Stone High School in Charles County faces charges of possession with intent to distribute drugs and possession of cannabis after authorities found more than 30 THC vaping devices in the student’s bookbag, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office said.
School administrators learned Oct. 13 that the student reportedly had used a vape on a school bus four days earlier. A school resource officer’s investigation led to a search of the bookbag, where officials found the devices in their original retail packaging. Authorities also said they found another THC vape on the student.
In a separate incident on Oct. 13, administrators at John Hanson Middle School recovered a vaping device from an 11-year-old student. The sheriff’s office said the device tested positive for THC. The office did not announce criminal charges against the younger student.
Both students are subject to consequences under Charles County Public Schools’ student code of conduct, according to the sheriff’s office, which urged parents and guardians to talk with children about the risks of THC and other unregulated vaping products. Officials cautioned that some products may contain harmful substances or have misleading labels.
