Four people wounded in separate overnight shootings near Howard University

Four people were wounded in two shootings reported late Saturday near Howard University, as the university celebrated its 2026 homecoming, D.C. police said. All four victims were reported to have injuries that were not life-threatening.

The first incident was reported at about 11:27 p.m. in the 700 block of V Street NW. Officers found evidence that a shooting had occurred but no victim at the scene. A juvenile male later arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound, police said.

About 26 minutes later, officers responded to the 900 block of Florida Avenue NW, where they found two juvenile males and an adult male with gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS transported all three to hospitals. Police recovered a firearm nearby.

No arrest had been made as of Sunday afternoon. Police are seeking a man described as having an Afro and goatee and wearing a light-colored puffer coat in connection with the Florida Avenue shooting. Investigators are also examining whether the two shootings are linked.

The incidents occurred in the area of Howard’s homecoming, which had the theme “Wildest Dreams.” It was not clear whether either shooting took place at the celebration or whether any Howard students were involved. The university had been contacted for comment.
