State investigators release footage of fatal Jessup crash involving Howard County officer
A 20-year-old Baltimore man died and two others were injured after an Infiniti collided with a retaining wall in Jessup on Sept. 6. Maryland’s Attorney General’s Office has released an officer’s body-camera footage as its investigation continues.
JESSUP, Md. — Maryland’s Attorney General’s Office has released body-camera footage from a Sept. 6 collision in Jessup that killed Anthony Bowers Jr., 20, of Baltimore, and injured two other people.
Authorities say an Infiniti struck a parked Howard County Police Department vehicle in the 7100 block of Montevideo Road and left the scene. PFC Amir Parker followed the car, which crashed into a retaining wall about a mile away.
In the footage, Parker exits his cruiser and asks a dispatcher to send an ambulance, saying multiple people had been ejected. He approaches the injured people and asks whether they are all right. At one point, he asks a man, “Why did you hit me and flee?” Parker is also heard saying, “I just wanted to exchange information,” before asking how he can help.
The footage was released later than expected because investigators needed to give people involved in the crash time to view it, according to the Attorney General’s Office. The office typically releases body-camera footage within 20 business days of an incident.
The office’s Independent Investigations Division is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash. The case marks the second fatal police pursuit involving Howard County Police this year. In January, a juvenile girl died after a Honda Accord pursued by an officer in an unmarked vehicle crashed into a tree on Route 32 near Broken Land Parkway.
