Baltimore to test postgame southbound traffic flow on Hanover Street
After Sunday’s Ravens-Bengals game, Hanover Street will temporarily carry southbound traffic only between West Street and I-95. The city says the pilot is intended to help stadium traffic clear faster and will be evaluated for future events.
BALTIMORE — Hanover Street will temporarily become southbound-only between West Street and I-95 after Sunday’s Ravens game as Baltimore tests a new plan for moving vehicles away from M&T Bank Stadium.
The Baltimore City Department of Transportation expects the change to run from about 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., though the timing may vary with traffic. The Ravens are scheduled to host the Cincinnati Bengals, with kickoff at 1 p.m.
Under the pilot, two eastbound lanes leaving stadium Lot H will continue onto West Street, then turn right onto Hanover Street. Hanover will have two southbound lanes between West and Wells streets. Police officers and transportation enforcement personnel will direct traffic.
The city says the test is intended to move vehicles out of stadium parking areas more quickly while easing congestion in nearby neighborhoods. The existing northbound detour at Wells Street and other usual postgame closures will remain in effect.
Temporary parking restrictions will affect about 14 spaces on the north side of West Street between Race and Hanover streets, along with three more spaces near West and Hanover. Drivers should follow temporary signs and instructions from traffic personnel.
Transportation officials plan to monitor conditions during the pilot to assess whether the arrangement could be used at future stadium events.
