A person of interest was taken into custody Sunday evening after a mosque in east Baltimore’s Coldstream Homestead Montebello neighborhood was found engulfed in flames. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remained unclear.
A person of interest was taken into custody Sunday evening in connection with a fire that engulfed a mosque on Harford Road in east Baltimore, police said. Authorities had not announced an arrest or identified the person as a suspect.
Patrol officers and firefighters responded shortly after 5 p.m. Oct. 25 to the 2600 block of Harford Road, in the Coldstream Homestead Montebello neighborhood. Officers found the mosque fully engulfed in flames, and fire crews extinguished the blaze. No injuries were reported.
Police had not said what caused the fire.
The fire was reported two days after a 24-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run on the same block. Police said the vehicle involved fled and had been stolen in a carjacking earlier that evening in the 2000 block of Harford Road. Citywide Robbery and Accident Investigation Units are investigating that crash. Authorities have not indicated that the crash and the mosque fire are connected.
