Baltimore County’s fall colors draw visitors to parks and the NCR Trail
Maryland’s Oct. 22 foliage report put much of the Baltimore region about halfway through its color change. Baltimore County is encouraging residents and visitors to explore its parks and the NCR Trail as the leaves turn.
MONKTON, Md. — Much of the Baltimore region was about halfway through its fall color change as of Oct. 22, according to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources’ foliage report, putting Baltimore County’s parks and trails in season for leaf-watchers.
County officials are encouraging people to get outdoors. Baltimore County has four state parks and more than a dozen county parks, and offers opportunities for walking, hiking and biking among the changing leaves.
“Look around, it’s beautiful fall foliage,” said Matthew Scales, the county’s chief of destination marketing and communications. “It’s the perfect time to get out there, really disconnect.”
In Hunt Valley, the NCR Trail offers a route through the fall landscape. Hunt Valley Village, near the trail’s starting point, has Chakra Cycles bike rentals. Owner Kate Mays said she especially enjoys riding late in the day, when sunlight shines through the leaves.
“Fall is my favorite season, I love it,” Mays said.
The county’s outdoor options range from a short walk to a longer bike ride, while the state foliage map provides a snapshot of how color is progressing across Maryland. A stretch of pleasant weather was forecast for the area as the leaves approached their peak.
