San Marcos renews search for leads in fatal Iconic Village fire
Investigators have released surveillance footage and are asking the public to help identify vehicles and nearby Wi-Fi networks connected to the 2018 Iconic Village Apartments fire. The blaze killed five people and injured seven.
San Marcos fire investigators are seeking new leads in the deadly 2018 fire at the Iconic Village Apartments, including help identifying vehicles and Wi-Fi networks recorded near the complex on the night of the blaze.
The San Marcos Fire Department released surveillance footage showing activity at the apartments shortly before the fire began on July 20, 2018. Investigators say information about vehicles seen in the video could help advance the case. They are also trying to identify the owners of several Wi-Fi networks that were active in the area at the time.
Five people died and seven were injured in the fire. Authorities believe it was intentionally set. A person was arrested in connection with the case in 2023, but a Hays County grand jury declined to indict that person in 2025.
The department is asking anyone with information about the vehicles, networks or any other part of the investigation to contact San Marcos Fire Department investigators.
