Federal school activity initiative and Fitness.gov introduced at Westlake High

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. visited Westlake High School in Austin on Thursday, Oct. 1, to announce a federal initiative encouraging schools to help students become more physically active.
The Presidential Fitness School Innovation Challenge is aimed at schools, education agencies and youth organizations, which are being encouraged to develop approaches to physical activity and healthy habits for students.
Federal officials also unveiled Fitness.gov, a website intended to serve as a central source of information about the Presidential Fitness Test. It offers training materials, guidance and certificates for educators, students and families.
The announcement puts the federal government’s fitness effort in front of local educators and families, though details about participation requirements, funding or the challenge’s timeline were not provided.
