Braves’ missed chances and defensive miscues fuel 4-1 NLDS exit
Atlanta’s season ended Wednesday with a 4-1 loss to Los Angeles in Game 4 of the National League Division Series. The Braves left seven runners on base and went hitless in seven at-bats with runners in scoring position.
The Atlanta Braves’ season ended Wednesday after a 4-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the National League Division Series, as defensive mistakes and missed scoring chances helped decide a close game.
Michael Harris II gave Atlanta an early lead in the first inning. After singling, stealing second and moving to third on a groundout, he scored when Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow’s curveball got past catcher Will Smith.
The Dodgers tied the game in the second. Shohei Ohtani drew a walk from Braves starter Tyler Mahle and tried to steal second. A wayward throw by catcher Sean Murphy sent Ohtani to third, and a dropped ball by shortstop Mauricio Dubon allowed him to score.
Mahle and Glasnow kept the offenses quiet after the early runs. Mahle left in the seventh after giving up a single to Teoscar Hernández. Los Angeles loaded the bases against reliever Didier Fuentes, and Andy Pages singled in two runs to put the Dodgers ahead 3-1.
Max Muncy added a solo home run against closer Raisel Iglesias, extending the lead to 4-1. Atlanta threatened late with doubles from Ozzie Albies and Harris, but could not bring them home.
The Braves finished 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and stranded seven runners. The victory sent Los Angeles to the National League Championship Series, where it will face the winner of the San Diego Padres-Milwaukee Brewers series.
