Atlanta Dream commit to downtown home at State Farm Arena through 2031
The Dream will play home games at State Farm Arena beginning in 2027 under an agreement that runs through 2031. The announcement comes as Atlanta makes its first WNBA Finals appearance since 2013 and ticket demand surges.
The Atlanta Dream will play their home games at downtown’s State Farm Arena through 2031, team co-owner and CEO Suzanne Abair said Oct. 18. The arrangement begins in 2027; the team had previously announced the move without disclosing its length.
The news comes during the Dream’s first trip to the WNBA Finals since 2013. More than 40,000 fans were in the queue for tickets to the Finals’ third game in Atlanta, a sign of the attention the team has drawn during its playoff run.
Abair said the franchise had spent years building toward its current position. “We came in with a plan, and we planned to build this franchise into what the Dream deserved and what the city of Atlanta deserved for the women’s professional basketball league,” she said in an interview ahead of Game 2 of the Finals in San Francisco.
She also framed the team’s growth as an investment in women’s sports, rather than a gamble. Abair said the returns on the franchise’s investment had been “exponential.”
The Dream are aiming for a championship, she said. “We want to bring a basketball championship to the city of Atlanta.”
The team also expects to share more information soon about its practice facility, including a possible location. No location or announcement date was provided.
