Angel Reese’s 30-point performance lifts Atlanta Dream to Finals-tying win

Angel Reese powered the Atlanta Dream to a 79-65 win over the Golden State Valkyries on Monday night in San Francisco, tying the WNBA Finals at one game apiece and giving Atlanta its first victory in a Finals game.

Reese finished with 30 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks. Allisha Gray added 18 points, while Jordin Canada recorded 13 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists.

Atlanta’s defense helped create the separation. The Dream scored 19 fast-break points, while Golden State had none. Atlanta led 39-37 at halftime, then stretched the margin to 60-46 by the end of the third quarter. Canada’s 3-pointer from just beyond midcourt at the buzzer capped that period.

The Dream entered the Finals after breaking through in the playoffs, beating the Washington Mystics and New York Liberty. Their three previous postseason appearances had ended with first-round losses. Golden State and Atlanta are both seeking the first championship in their franchises’ histories.

The series moves to Atlanta for Game 3 on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and Game 4 on Saturday, Oct. 24. Both games are scheduled for State Farm Arena; Game 3 tips off at 8 p.m. Eastern.
