Vienna imposes overnight curfew after homecoming shooting kills two, injures 35
The city of Vienna declared an emergency and imposed overnight curfews Monday, two days after a shooting at a homecoming block party killed two men and left 35 others shot or injured while trying to escape the gunfire. The victims who died were Ja’Quavion Jackson, 21, of Cordele, and Macaleb Jackson, 23, of Hawkinsville. The shooting occurred Sunday morning in Vienna, in Dooly County about two hours south of Atlanta. Mayor Eddie Daniels said the emergency declaration is intended to reduce the risk of further injury, violence, property damage and disorder, and to help emergency personnel protect the community. The order took effect immediately. Under the curfew, people must remain off the streets from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weeknights and from midnight to 6 a.m. on weekends. Exceptions include essential travel, emergencies, official duties and activities authorized by the city or protected by law.
