PUTNAM COUNTY, Ga. — Two men have been charged with murder after Zachary Brandon Smith, a 19-year-old from Milledgeville, was found shot to death Friday evening along Rooty Creek, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies found Smith’s body at about 6:40 p.m. on the creek bank, near Pea Ridge Road and roughly eight miles south of Eatonton. Investigators said he had been shot multiple times in the chest with a rifle.
The sheriff’s office said investigators located a witness who identified Michael David Ludwick, 20, as the alleged shooter and Ludwick’s father, Joshua David Ludwick, 38, as a party to the crime. The allegations have not been proven in court.
With help from the Morgan and Walton County sheriff’s offices, deputies arrested both men at their homes in Madison at about 10:45 p.m. Friday. They are being held at the Putnam County Jail and each faces a murder charge.
