Six Flags temporarily shuts similar coasters after fatal Goliath incident in Cobb County
A death and four injuries on the Goliath coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia prompted the company to temporarily close similar rides across its parks. Six Flags has not identified which attractions are affected.
MABLETON, Ga. — Six Flags has temporarily closed attractions similar to the Goliath roller coaster after a Monday incident at Six Flags Over Georgia left one person dead and four injured, the company said.
The incident happened shortly before 4 p.m. Oct. 12 at the park in Cobb County. Riders on Goliath were evacuated as officials responded.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily closed similar attractions across our parks,” a Six Flags spokeswoman said. The company said guest and employee safety is among its highest priorities.
Six Flags had not specified which rides or park locations were included in the closures. The company operates four hypercoasters—roller coasters at least 200 feet tall—identified as Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia, Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure, Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America and Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain. It was not clear whether all four were among the temporarily closed attractions.
The cause of the incident and the identities of those involved were not provided in the available information. The closures could affect visitors at multiple parks while the company assesses rides similar to the one involved in the fatal incident.
