Sandy Springs reports four arrests in trafficking operation as park encounter draws scrutiny
Sandy Springs police say a human trafficking investigation at Morgan Falls Overlook Park and near Hammond Drive resulted in four arrests, the rescue of an adult victim and three children being placed in protective custody. The department has not said whether the investigation was related to a separate encounter at the park that has drawn widespread attention online. The department said its Criminal Investigations Division, Street Crimes Unit, K9 Unit, Narcotics and Vice Unit, and Intelligence Unit took part in the operation. The four people arrested face charges including trafficking a person for sexual servitude, pimping, prostitution and solicitation for an illicit sexual act. Police said the investigation remains active and had not released further details by Friday afternoon. Separately, real estate agent Marron Bridges posted videos showing an officer questioning her as she walked through Morgan Falls Overlook Park. The two videos had received more than 6 million Instagram views, and Bridges said she filed a complaint with the department on Thursday. She has said she believes she was racially profiled. Police have not publicly explained why officers approached her or whether the encounter was connected to the trafficking investigation. The videos have prompted discussion in Sandy Springs and beyond about racial profiling and whether Black women feel safe in public spaces. Sandy Springs City Councilwoman Dr. Melody Kelley, whose district includes the park, said she wants to know what led officers to question Bridges. Kelley, who is Black and said she regularly walks the nearby Springway Trail, said she is awaiting the full facts. Bridges’ recordings show her asking the officer why she was being questioned and asking nearby park visitors to stay with her during the interaction. The footage also shows at least four patrol vehicles nearby. The department had not provided information on a process for reviewing the encounter by Friday afternoon.
