Salem High football bus overturns near I-20 and Highway 138 in Conyers
A school bus carrying Salem High School football players and staff overturned around 11 p.m. Friday near the junction of Interstate 20 and Highway 138. Several students and staff members were taken to hospitals; authorities had not released details about their injuries or the cause of the crash.
A bus carrying Salem High School football players and staff overturned in Conyers around 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, near Old Salem Road and the junction of Interstate 20 and Highway 138.
The Rockdale County School District said 17 players, seven trainers, two coaches and one driver were aboard. The group was returning from an away football game. Several students and staff members were taken to hospitals, but officials had not provided information on the number of people hospitalized or the severity of their injuries.
Georgia State Patrol, Conyers police and the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office responded. The state patrol was working to gather information about those injured. No cause of the crash was reported.
A witness who was at a nearby gas station said she heard a loud noise, turned around and saw the bus overturned.
