Cobb County man charged after Molotov cocktail thrown at Atlanta ICE office

ATLANTA — A man was arrested Friday in Cobb County after authorities accused him of throwing a Molotov cocktail at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office in downtown Atlanta earlier this week.

Inique Hinton faces federal charges of arson and damaging government property, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia Theodore S. Hertzberg said at a news conference Friday night. Authorities said Hinton was taken into custody without incident.

Investigators believe the suspect walked up to the facility on Ted Turner Drive, threw the incendiary device and left around 8 p.m. Tuesday. The office is accessible to passersby, authorities said.

Hertzberg called the attack “an attack against our democracy” and said prosecutors would pursue the case with “extreme severity.” Those are the government’s allegations; Hinton’s guilt has not been established in court.

If convicted, Hinton could face five to 20 years in prison for arson and up to 10 additional years for damaging government property, according to authorities. The FBI had offered a $20,000 reward for information identifying the suspect before the arrest.
