Isaias winds knock out power across Georgia; crews restore service to 80,000 customers
Georgia Power restored electricity to more than 80,000 customers across Georgia by Saturday afternoon after high winds and fallen trees linked to Hurricane Isaias caused outages, the utility said. The storm’s outer bands brought strong winds to metro Atlanta, where downed trees also slowed repair work, said Georgia Power spokesperson Amanda Sowells. She said the company drew on lessons from Hurricane Helene and upgrades to its smart-grid technology as crews responded. On Highland Avenue in Atlanta, a large tree fell onto cars and came close to nearby homes. Residents said they heard the crash and lost power. “I was sound asleep, and all I heard was a big crack and a boom, and the lights went out,” resident Todd Williams said. Neighbor McKenna Sanville described the crash as “very jarring.” Neighbors said they were relieved that crews arrived quickly and that no one was killed in the incident.
