H.E. Holmes MARTA site adds seventh StationSoccer field for youth

MARTA and Soccer in the Streets opened a new soccer pitch at H.E. Holmes Station on Oct. 21, repurposing part of a parking lot. The field is expected to host league play in the 2027 StationSoccer season, with transit access intended to help young people reach practices and matches.

H.E. Holmes MARTA site adds seventh StationSoccer field for youth

A former section of the parking lot at H.E. Holmes MARTA Station has been turned into a soccer field for metro Atlanta youth, with league play expected to begin during the 2027 StationSoccer season.

MARTA and Soccer in the Streets marked the pitch’s opening Oct. 21. It is the seventh field in the StationSoccer program and the latest project in a partnership that began with a transit-station pitch at Five Points a decade ago.

The program places soccer fields at or beside MARTA stations so young players can use transit to reach practices and games. Organizers say the H.E. Holmes site will give nearby families access to athletic programming and provide a place for youth development.

“This field has transformed what was once part of a parking lot into a dynamic space for neighborhood pride, wellness, and youth empowerment,” MARTA General Manager and CEO Jonathan Hunt said in a statement.

Soccer in the Streets Executive Director Kaseem Ladipo said the new field expands access to youth soccer and offers a place for young people to build teamwork and other skills. Students from Young Middle School, a Soccer in the Streets partner, attended the opening celebration.

Soccer in the Streets, MARTA, Atlanta United FC and the city of Atlanta are founding partners of StationSoccer. The H.E. Holmes project also received support from partners including Invest Atlanta, Amazon, Georgia Power, Dick’s Sporting Goods, LISC, FieldTurf and HKS. A portion of its funding came through Invest Atlanta’s Westside Tax Allocation District community development initiative.
