More than 100 residences in Sandy Springs were evacuated Wednesday, Oct. 7, after a third party damaged a gas line on Johnson Ferry Road, prompting a road closure and emergency response near the City Springs district. The incident was reported around 2 p.m. Johnson Ferry Road was closed from Sandy Springs Circle to Bonnie Lane/Wright Road, according to local authorities. The affected gas main is near Fire Station 2 and City Springs. Atlanta Gas Light said a contractor performing work unrelated to the utility struck its line. The company said its crews responded and were working to repair the damage safely. Sandy Springs police urged motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area, leave room for emergency responders and follow any evacuation instructions. Officials advised the public to monitor local updates; no reopening time was provided.
