Atlanta assesses Moores Mill Road bridge after support wall falls into Peachtree Creek
The century-old bridge remains closed after a heavy vehicle struck it Tuesday, bringing down part of its support structure and damaging a water line. Atlanta contractors are assessing repairs, but officials have not announced a reopening date.
ATLANTA — Moores Mill Road remains closed at the bridge over Peachtree Creek as Atlanta crews evaluate structural damage caused when a heavy vehicle struck the bridge Tuesday, city officials said Wednesday.
Part of the bridge’s supporting structure collapsed into the creek, and a water line was damaged. Contractors working with the Atlanta Department of Transportation are on site assessing the damage and determining what repairs are needed. The Department of Watershed Management is coordinating work related to the water infrastructure.
The city has not provided a timeline for repairs or reopening. The bridge will remain closed until assessments and repairs are complete and officials determine it is safe for traffic, the city said.
The bridge is about 100 years old and has experienced problems over the years, City Councilmember Dustin Hillis said Tuesday.
