Seattle defense shuts down Mahomes as Seahawks end Chiefs’ unbeaten run
Seattle snapped a two-game skid with a 20-3 win over Kansas City at Lumen Field on Oct. 25, handing the previously undefeated Chiefs their first loss. Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught nine passes for 150 yards and a touchdown as the Seahawks defense kept Kansas City out of the red zone.
SEATTLE — The Seahawks answered a two-game losing streak with a 20-3 prime-time victory over the previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 25 at Lumen Field, relying on a stifling defense and a standout performance from wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Smith-Njigba finished with nine catches for 150 yards and a touchdown. Safety Nick Emmanwori praised the receiver after the game, calling him “unguardable.” Quarterback Sam Darnold pointed to Smith-Njigba’s football instincts and ability to adjust during a game, while Cooper Kupp highlighted his consistency from play to play.
Seattle’s defense intercepted Patrick Mahomes and prevented the Chiefs from reaching the red zone. It also limited former Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III, who returned to Lumen Field with Kansas City, to 36 rushing yards.
The Seahawks extended their streak to 36 consecutive games without allowing an opposing running back to rush for 100 yards. Emmanwori said stopping Walker was a point of motivation for Seattle’s defense.
Darnold, who had struggled in recent weeks, threw an interception to end the first half but helped the offense do enough to support the defensive effort. Coach Mike Macdonald called him “a ballplayer.”
Macdonald said the performance reminded the team what it can accomplish, while also leaving room for improvement. Smith-Njigba described the group’s resilience as a strength and said the team would keep moving forward.
The Seahawks are scheduled to host Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears at Lumen Field on Monday, Nov. 2. Kickoff is set for 5:15 p.m.
