Two bins containing election ballots were found in dumpsters at Seattle’s Golden Gardens this week. King County Elections says it recovered 92 ballots and reissued them to the voters; the U.S. Postal Inspection Service is investigating.
King County Elections recovered 92 ballots after two bins containing election materials were found in dumpsters at Seattle’s Golden Gardens this week, the county agency said Thursday, Oct. 22.
The agency said it has reissued all of the ballots to the voters they belonged to. It did not provide further details about how the bins ended up in the dumpsters or whether the incident affected ballot processing.
Seattle police checked 26 trash bins across two parking lots but found no additional ballots, the department said. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has been notified and is investigating.
The discovery raises questions about how election materials were handled and transported. No further information about the investigation was immediately available.
