A semi-truck’s brake failure sparked a seven-vehicle crash on eastbound State Route 18 in Auburn on Tuesday morning, closing all eastbound lanes west of State Route 167 and prompting a traffic diversion. Washington State Patrol Trooper Rick Johnson said the truck hit several vehicles. The crash was reported at about 8:15 a.m. on Oct. 13, 2026. People were hurt, and several were transported to hospitals, Johnson said. No major injuries were reported. Eastbound traffic was being diverted to State Route 181, also known as West Valley Highway, while crews worked to reopen the highway. The extent of the resulting traffic delays was not immediately available.
