Sedro-Woolley district halts use of affected student medications after audit

SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. — Student medications were found missing or tampered with at multiple schools in the Sedro-Woolley School District, which referred the matter to the city police department after discovering the issue during a routine audit, the district said Oct. 21, 2026.

The district has contacted families whose children’s medications were identified as affected. As a precaution, staff will not administer medication from those supplies while the district works with families to obtain replacements. The district said it will cover the replacement costs.

Superintendent Brett Greenwood said the district’s immediate focus is supporting students and families and determining what happened. He apologized for the concern and uncertainty, and said the district would cooperate with law enforcement and work to reduce the chance of a similar incident.

The district has not released further details, citing the confidential nature of student medication information and the ongoing investigation. Families with questions about a child’s medication are asked to contact the school principal.
