Seattle police recover 50 shell casings after Kerry Park shooting
Two men were wounded and a juvenile was arrested after gunfire at Kerry Park early Saturday. Police say officers found a rifle in a vehicle and collected about 50 rifle- and handgun-caliber casings.
Seattle police are investigating a shooting at Kerry Park that left two men wounded early Saturday and led to the arrest of a juvenile.
Officers responded at about 3:30 a.m. to reports of gunfire and contacted people in a vehicle. Police said officers detained everyone inside after spotting a rifle and other evidence. Investigators recovered about 50 shell casings from rifle and handgun ammunition at the scene.
The two injured men later arrived separately at Harborview Medical Center. One had been shot in the leg and the other in the hip; both were in serious but stable condition, police said.
A juvenile was booked into the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children and Family Justice Center for investigation of assault. Police had not publicly disclosed the suspect’s age or gender as of Monday. The vehicle was impounded while detectives with the department’s Gun Violence Reduction Unit sought a search warrant.
Kerry Park, known for its view of the Seattle skyline, has also drawn late-night street parties, according to neighbors who spoke with local television reporters. The shooting comes as Seattle police have announced renewed efforts to prevent violence at street parties following three fatal shootings in Belltown over Labor Day weekend.
Police had no further updates on the Kerry Park investigation Monday.
