Police investigate early-morning shooting in Haller Lake after bullets enter apartment
More than 80 shell casings were recovered after gunfire near North 107th Street and Stone Way North on Saturday morning. A resident said bullets entered her apartment and one came close to hitting her; no injuries were reported.
Seattle police are investigating a burst of gunfire in the Haller Lake neighborhood that damaged homes and vehicles Saturday morning and sent bullets into an apartment where a resident narrowly avoided being hit.
Officers responded around 8:15 a.m. Oct. 24 to reports of shots near North 107th Street and Stone Way North. Police Detective Shane Weatherford said officers recovered more than 80 shell casings, from five calibers associated with rifles and handguns.
A resident told police several bullets came through her apartment window, and one passed “very close” to her, Weatherford said. No one was injured, though nearby homes and vehicles were struck.
Witnesses reported seeing a black sedan leave eastbound on North 107th Street before turning north onto Aurora Avenue North. Police reviewed video with the department’s Real Time Crime Center and saw a black sedan heading north with what appeared to be extensive bullet damage. Officers searched for the car but did not find it. No suspects were in custody as of Saturday evening.
The shooting came two days after police investigated another burst of gunfire about seven blocks south, in the 10000 block of Aurora Avenue North, where roughly 120 shell casings were found. Residents and businesses in the area have urged city leaders to address gun violence and sex trafficking, and activists marched in protest in June.
