Federal jury rejects Emanuel Fair’s lawsuit against Redmond, King County

A federal jury has rejected Emanuel Fair’s civil-rights lawsuit against the city of Redmond and King County, ending a legal fight that followed his acquittal in the killing of a Redmond woman.

Fair spent nine years in jail before a jury found him not guilty at trial. He later sued the city and county, alleging malicious prosecution. Fair said investigators targeted him because he is Black and has a criminal record.

The federal jury found that Fair was not the victim of malicious prosecution. The homicide investigation involved a woman’s death in Redmond; the case remains unsolved, according to a prior account of the criminal proceedings.
