Early-morning blaze heavily damages Edmonds’ Gyro Makers restaurant

An early-morning fire damaged Gyro Makers restaurant and a neighboring nail salon and spa Saturday at the Westgate Village commercial center in Edmonds, according to South County Fire.

Firefighters were called at about 5:45 a.m. after reports of smoke. Although crews saw no flames from the street, they noticed condensation on the restaurant’s windows. Inside, they found heavy smoke and an active fire in the unoccupied business.

Crews brought the main fire under control in less than 10 minutes while other firefighters worked to keep it from spreading. Gyro Makers sustained heavy damage; the adjacent salon and spa sustained moderate damage, the department said.

At least 17 response units attended, with the Shoreline Fire Department providing mutual aid. One firefighter was evaluated at the scene and returned to duty. No other injuries were reported.

South County Fire is investigating what caused the blaze. The damage affects two neighboring businesses in the Westgate commercial center; no information was provided about when either may reopen.
