A 28-year-old San Francisco man has been charged in connection with a Daly City crash that killed two people last weekend, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Alvaro Caballero Arteaga is accused of speeding through a red light and broadsiding another vehicle Sunday at San Jose Avenue and Flournoy Street. The collision killed the other car’s driver, Rhiannon Lawler, and passenger Agustin Garcia, prosecutors said.
Caballero Arteaga appeared in court Wednesday. Prosecutors said a preliminary alcohol screening showed a blood alcohol level of 0.15%. Investigators also found that his driver’s license had been suspended after a February arrest in Alameda County on suspicion of misdemeanor driving under the influence, according to the district attorney’s office.
He did not enter a plea at his initial court appearance and was assigned a lawyer through San Mateo County’s Private Defender Program. He remains in custody without bail and is due back in court Oct. 15 for a further arraignment, prosecutors said.
