Two arrested in October killings in San Francisco’s southeast neighborhoods

San Francisco police have arrested two suspects, including a juvenile, in connection with separate fatal shootings in Hunters Point and Potrero Hill, authorities announced Oct. 20.

Jorge Alberto Mendoza-Hernandez, 44, was arrested Oct. 15 in connection with the Oct. 1 killing of Jose Juan Ramirez-Sanchez on Thomas Avenue in Hunters Point, police said. Officers found Mendoza-Hernandez on the 600 block of Gilman Avenue near Candlestick State Park, about three miles from where Ramirez-Sanchez was shot.

Police had identified two suspects in Ramirez-Sanchez’s killing. Mendoza-Hernandez is the only one arrested so far, according to the department.

In a separate case, a juvenile male was arrested Oct. 17 at Potrero Hill Terrace and Annex, a public housing complex. Police said the arrest followed an Oct. 16 fatal shooting there and a search warrant that led officers to evidence related to the homicide. The department did not release the juvenile’s name.

The two cases came amid three homicides in San Francisco’s southeast District 10 during October. The recent violence contrasts with a substantial decline in gun violence in the region over the past several years, according to the report.
