A man died after being struck by a vehicle early Sunday in San Francisco’s Tenderloin, and police arrested the driver later that morning after locating the vehicle on Treasure Island.
San Francisco police responded at about 1:06 a.m. Oct. 25 to the 800 block of Ellis Street, where they found the injured pedestrian. Officers provided aid before he was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. He later died there.
The driver and vehicle had left before officers arrived. Investigators traced the vehicle to Treasure Island, where California Highway Patrol officers had stopped it for an unrelated traffic violation, according to police.
San Francisco officers told CHP about the fatal collision and developed probable cause to arrest the driver, an adult woman. She was taken to San Francisco County Jail and booked on suspicion of homicide. Police have not released her identity, citing the ongoing investigation.
The vehicle was towed and is being processed for evidence. Police have not released further details about the circumstances of the collision.
