Navy Blue Angels Remove Pilot Who Flew in San Francisco Fleet Week

The U.S. Navy's Blue Angels have removed a pilot who flew in last month's San Francisco Fleet Week air show, saying he failed to meet the standards required of the flight demonstration squadron.

Maj. Scott Laux, the team's No. 6 opposing solo pilot, will not take part in the Blue Angels' remaining performances this season, according to the Chief of Naval Air Training public affairs office. The Navy did not specify what Laux did or when the decision was made.

"Blue Angel #6 was removed from the team for failing to uphold the standards expected of members of the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron and will not participate in the team's remaining performance this season," the command said in a statement.

The announcement came as the Blue Angels returned to Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida for their annual homecoming air show. The team flew with five jets instead of its usual six, according to the Pensacola News Journal, which first reported the removal.

Laux was part of the 2026 team that performed over San Francisco Bay during Fleet Week in October. The team's Friday show on Oct. 9 was cut short by fog and low clouds, but the Blue Angels returned the next day for a full performance.

The 2026 season was Laux's second with the squadron. He joined in 2024 and served as the team's narrator in 2025 before moving into the opposing solo role this year. Before joining the Blue Angels, he served with Marine fighter-attack squadrons at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego and deployed aboard the USS Nimitz. The Navy said he had logged more than 1,300 flight hours and 169 aircraft carrier arrested landings.

As of Friday, Laux's photo and biography had been removed from the Blue Angels' current team roster online. Officials did not say whether the removal is connected to a disciplinary proceeding or other investigation.

Fleet Week, an annual San Francisco tradition that draws thousands of spectators to the waterfront, features the Blue Angels as its marquee attraction. The squadron's performances over the bay are among the most visible military recruitment and public outreach events in the region.
