A woman walking in the southbound lanes of Highway 101 in San Jose prompted a major traffic backup Saturday morning after CHP received reports she was carrying a knife and approaching vehicles. A woman walking against traffic on southbound Highway 101 in San Jose caused major delays Saturday morning after the California Highway Patrol received a report that she was approaching vehicles with a knife, authorities said.
CHP received a call at about 11:10 a.m. reporting a woman near the freeway, just south of Bernal Road. The initial report placed her on the right shoulder, moving toward the center divider. She was later reported walking northbound in the southbound lanes.
At 11:13 a.m., CHP received a report that the woman was “going after vehicles with a knife.” The incident led to a significant traffic backup. By 11:43 a.m., lanes 1 and 2 were open on southbound Highway 101 just south of Highway 85.
CHP has not released further information about the woman or the outcome of the incident.
