A person died in a multi-vehicle crash on southbound Highway 101 in San Jose early Saturday, prompting the closure of all southbound lanes for about three and a half hours, the California Highway Patrol said. The crash was reported around 5:30 a.m. north of the Tully Road off-ramp. Initial reports described a single-vehicle collision, but authorities later determined multiple vehicles were involved. CHP said it received reports that someone may have been ejected and that an occupant was trapped. Several vehicles sustained major damage. The southbound lanes reopened around 9 a.m. Authorities have not released the identity of the person who died or further details about what led to the crash.
