Family searches Lagoon Valley Park for clues in Chantel Brooks disappearance
Relatives of 37-year-old Chantel Brooks searched near Vacaville’s Lagoon Valley Park after learning her phone last registered nearby. Fairfield police have said they suspect foul play, but have named no suspects and have not publicly announced a significant update in months.
Family members and friends of Chantel Brooks searched near Lagoon Valley Park in Vacaville on Thursday, hoping to find clues about the 37-year-old Fairfield woman who has been missing since July.
Brooks’ relatives said they recently learned her cellphone last pinged near the park, an open space beside Interstate 80 with hiking trails, picnic areas and a lake. The family handed out missing-person flyers and looked around the area.
“We’re hoping to find something. I’m staying positive that she’s alive, and we’ve just got to find her safe,” her brother Calvin Robinson told KCRA.
Brooks was last seen in the early hours of July 17. Surveillance footage showed her leaving her job as a desk clerk at San Francisco’s Le Nain Hotel at 12:20 a.m. and entering a 24-hour CVS on East Travis Boulevard in Fairfield at about 1:45 a.m. Her movements after that are unclear.
Her black 2021 Infiniti SUV was reportedly captured by a Flock camera in Oakland, but the vehicle has not been found. Police have not publicly detailed how the car sighting relates to the search near the park.
Fairfield police said in August that they suspected foul play in Brooks’ disappearance. No suspect has been named, and there has been no substantial public update in recent months.
Brooks was born and raised in San Francisco and has a large extended family involved in the search. Relatives have also described concerns about possible violence before she disappeared, including neighbors’ reported accounts of fighting at her apartment and reports that her live-in boyfriend had previously been arrested on assault charges. Those accounts have not resulted in a publicly named suspect. Her family has since removed her belongings from the apartment.
