Daly City crash that killed two leads to murder charges against San Francisco driver
Prosecutors say Alvaro Fabian Caballero-Arteaga ran a red light while intoxicated and struck a car in Daly City, killing its driver and passenger. He is being held without bail, with arraignment scheduled for Oct. 15.
A 28-year-old San Francisco man is facing murder charges after a collision in Daly City on Sunday killed two people in another car, prosecutors said.
San Mateo County prosecutors allege Alvaro Fabian Caballero-Arteaga ran a red light and struck a vehicle at Flournoy Street and San Jose Avenue. The other car’s driver, 46-year-old Rhiannon Lawler of San Francisco, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, 50-year-old Augustin Garcia of Daly City, died while being taken to a hospital.
Prosecutors said Caballero-Arteaga’s blood-alcohol level was 0.15% about three hours after the crash. His driver’s license had been suspended following a misdemeanor drunken-driving arrest in Alameda County earlier this year, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
A public defender was appointed to represent Caballero-Arteaga on Wednesday, and his arraignment was scheduled for Oct. 15. He remains in custody without bail. The allegations have not been proven in court.
