Berkeley police seek driver after two pedestrians are seriously hurt
Berkeley police are investigating a suspected hit-and-run after a collision seriously injured two pedestrians Wednesday night at University Avenue and Eighth Street. Officers were called to the intersection at about 9 p.m. and found a 78-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman with serious injuries. Berkeley Fire Department crews took both to a hospital. Police said preliminary information indicates the two were crossing University Avenue in the eastern crosswalk when an eastbound dark-colored sedan struck them. The driver was not at the scene when officers arrived. The department’s Fatal Accident Investigation Team is investigating because of the severity of the collision. Police asked anyone with information to contact the department’s traffic unit at 510-981-5980.
