Caltrans plans three-day westbound I-80 shutdown in San Francisco

A stretch of westbound Interstate 80 in San Francisco will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, through 6 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, as crews work on the freeway deck near the Bay Bridge, Caltrans said.

The closure will cover westbound I-80 between Fifth and 15th streets. Caltrans recommends that motorists avoid using the Bay Bridge to enter San Francisco during the shutdown. Alternatives include public transportation or the San Mateo, Dumbarton and Richmond-San Rafael bridges.

Crews will place polyester concrete on the westbound I-80 Bayshore Freeway deck. The work will complete a broader viaduct project that began with concrete placement on the eastbound freeway earlier this year, the agency said.
