West Warwick High will stay open after threat is found in school bathroom

West Warwick High School will remain open Friday, Oct. 16, with additional police on campus after a student reported a bathroom message threatening violence that day, Superintendent Karen Tarasevich said Thursday.

School administrators contacted West Warwick police as soon as the message was reported. School officials and police reviewed available records and interviewed students, but had not identified who was responsible as of Thursday evening.

Tarasevich said the investigation had found no evidence that the threat would be carried out. Still, the school is treating it seriously, she said.

The school plans to increase visible police presence Friday and inspect vacant bathrooms more frequently. Support will also be available to students and staff, and the district said it will share new information directly with families and employees.

Tarasevich acknowledged the message could be unsettling for the school community. Anyone with information is asked to contact West Warwick police.
