Warwick’s Joe’s Pizza takes top prize for New Haven-style pie at Ohio competition
Joe’s Pizza owner Joe Boisvert won first place in the non-traditional thin New Haven-style category at the Great American Pizza Challenge. The Kilvert Street shop, which opened in November 2025, also placed second in a regional pepperoni-slice contest.
A Warwick pizzeria that opened less than a year ago has earned a national competition title for one of the pies it has served since its first day.
Joe’s Pizza, at 163 Kilvert St., won first place in the non-traditional thin New Haven-style category at the Great American Pizza Challenge, held Oct. 11 and 12 during Pizza Expo Columbus in Ohio. Owner Joe Boisvert scored 49.46 points, narrowly ahead of a New York competitor who received 49.13, according to the competition results.
The winning pie, called Polpette Rustica, pairs the shop’s thin crust with sauce, shredded mozzarella and house-made meatballs, finished with pecorino and fresh basil. Boisvert said the pizza has been on the menu since the restaurant opened on Black Friday in November 2025.
“It’s been a winner here since day one,” he said.
Boisvert also placed second in the Northeast division of the America’s Best Pepperoni Slice competition, finishing just 0.17 points behind the winner.
He said he had hoped to finish in the top 50, making the first-place result a surprise. For the new Warwick business, the awards put a locally made pizza on a national stage while the shop approaches its first anniversary.
