Spaziano’s $78.5 million Providence school complex now has its middle school campus

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Frank D. Spaziano PK-8 School’s upper campus opened Friday, completing a $78.5 million school complex that began welcoming elementary students in 2023.

The new $34.5 million middle school building is designed to serve 312 students. It includes STEAM learning centers, classroom technology, a media center and dedicated spaces for special education programs, according to Providence Public Schools officials.

Providence, state and education leaders gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 16. Superintendent Javier Montañez said the campus reflects the district’s investment in school facilities and its goal of providing students with modern learning environments.

Rhode Island Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green said state intervention helped make the broader transformation of Providence school facilities possible. She described the new campus as part of an effort to provide students with spaces that support learning, achievement and well-being.

The upper campus completes the Spaziano school complex, which brings elementary and middle school facilities together under the PK-8 model. The elementary building opened in 2023.
