Providence resident faces charges after gunshot penetrates neighboring child’s room
Police say Sean Pagan, 34, accidentally fired a gun inside his Barstow Street apartment, sending a bullet through a wall into a child’s bedroom. No one was injured; detectives seized two firearms under a search warrant.
A bullet pierced the wall between two connected apartments on Providence’s Barstow Street and landed on a child’s bed, leading to gun-related charges against a 34-year-old resident, police said Tuesday.
The child’s mother told officers her daughter and younger sister were in the bedroom the night before the damage was discovered. The older girl heard what sounded like two gunshots, her mother said. The next evening, the mother found a hole in the bedroom wall and a projectile on the bed, then called police.
Officers arrested Sean Pagan, who lives in the adjoining apartment. Police said Pagan told detectives he accidentally discharged a firearm inside his home. Detectives later obtained a search warrant and seized two firearms, according to police.
Pagan faces two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, a firearm, and one count of discharging a firearm in a compact area. No injuries were reported.
Neighbor Shaquella Ambers said the incident unsettled residents and raised concerns about safety on the street. She said she has considered moving, but housing costs make relocating difficult.
