Blackstone driver escapes before train hits Honda at Woonsocket crossing
A train struck a Honda at Woonsocket’s River Street railroad crossing Sunday night after the car became disabled on the tracks, police said. The driver, who is from Blackstone, got out before the train arrived. Officers were called to the crossing around 9:02 p.m. Oct. 11. Police said their investigation found that the driver thought she was turning onto Verry Street but instead drove onto the railroad tracks, where the vehicle stopped working. The train was more than 4,200 feet long. Police said it was traveling slowly and its crew brought it to a stop quickly, but not before it hit the Honda. The crossing remained closed for hours because of the collision. Police did not provide details about damage to the car or report whether anyone was injured.
